MCC softball swept by Indian Hills

OTTUMWA — The Marshalltown Community College softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Indian Hills on Tuesday, falling 10-1 and 30-2 in a pair of 5-inning games.

In the opener, MCC (0-4) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a solo home run by Alexia Jarrett in the top of the first inning.

Indian Hills scored three times in the home half and never trailed again.

Kimberly Rodriguez and Paige Westlin had two hits apiece, including a double for Westlin, to lead the Tiger offense. Jarrett’s homer was MCC’s only other hit off Sara Reid, who struck out 11 and walked none in the five-inning complete-game pitching performance for the Warriors (15-11).

Claire Tipton was 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs to top the Indian Hills offense, which had 12 hits off Rodriguez.

The Warriors combined 18 hits with 17 walks in the nightcap. Ava Smith was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and six RBIs to lead Indian Hills.

Kyleigh Westlin and Jarrett both went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the MCC offense. Ilajay Tromp and Jada Walton both contributed singles.

The Tigers host Ellsworth for a doubleheader today starting at 1 p.m., and Iowa Lakes visits Marshalltown on Saturday for a twinbill.
