SPORTS SHORT: Bobcat boys compete at Wartburg Indoor

WAVERLY — The Marshalltown boys’ track and field team had a handful of top-10 performances at the Wartburg Indoor on Tuesday.

Aiden Smitherman led the Bobcats with a runner-up finish in the long jump, clearing 20 feet, 7 inches. Teammate Ethan Gorsuch was seventh at 19-1.

Parker Gooding led MHS on the track as he finished third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 47.69 seconds, and fourth in the 800 in 2:07.96. Myles Goldman added to the distance parade, finishing 10th in 11:15.74. Goldman also came in 13th in the 800 (2:19.26).

Marshalltown’s 4×400-meter relay team closed the night with an eighth-place finish, as the foursome of Kieron Sharp, Smitherman, Preston Johnson and Charlie Gilbertson clocked in at 3:50.03.

Owen Eaton added an 11th-place finish in the shot put (41-6 1/2).
