Bobcat matmen third at Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — The Marshalltown boys’ wrestling team took third place at the Williamsburg Duals on Saturday, going 3-2 on the day.
The Bobcats improved to 4-2 on the season by defeating Pella (47-35), Central DeWitt (48-31) and the Southeast Polk JV (56-16). MHS fell to Williamsburg (50-24) and Davenport Assumption (54-24). Assumption defeated the host Raiders 47-28 to claim the team title.
Marshalltown was led by 144-pounder Nicholas Wise, who went 5-0 with five pins. A trio of Bobcats went 4-1 on the day: Nicholas Million at 120, Dalton Zednichek at 190 and Ignacio Macias at 285. Million and Macias had four pins apiece, while Zednichek had two pins.
Anthony Chavez went 3-1 at 157, while Yandel Manning (138), Colby Cross (150) and Carson Wright (165) all finished 3-2 for the tournament. Wright’s three wins all came by pinfall, while Manning and Cross had two pins each.
MHS girls 7th at BGM Duals
BROOKLYN — The Marshalltown girls’ wrestling team took seventh place at the BGM Duals on Saturday, while the South Hardin-BCLUW squad scored third.
Marshalltown sustained losses to SH-BCLUW (48-34), Iowa City Liberty (61-14) and Gilbert (42-36) before beating Nevada, 48-36, to claim the seventh-place match.
The Storm toppled Marshalltown and Gilbert (48-36) before falling to Iowa City Liberty (60-24). SH-BCLUW defeated Colfax-Mingo 42-33 in the bout for third place.
Marshalltown was led on the day by Erandy Ibarra at 100 pounds and Olivia Wise at 190, as both went 3-1.
Seven more MHS wrestlers went 2-2 during the meet: Shailynn Sadie (115), Patricia Mateo Merida (120), Faith Sommerlot (125), Madylin McDonald (145), Addyson Lovelace (155), Ella DeMonte (170) and Nevaeh Gonzales (235). Lovelace and Gonzales both had two pins, while McDonald had a pin and a major decision.
The Storm were led by three 4-0 wrestlers for the day: Ceanna White (135), Taya Hollingsworth (155) and Megyn Hollingsworth (170). White picked up three pins and a forfeit, Taya had two pins and two forfeits, and Megyn had four pinfalls in a total time of 5 minutes, 51 seconds.
Hailee Robinson (105), Khloe Neal (110) and Kaitlynn Dickes (190) each finished 3-1 with two pins apiece.
