Orpheum hosts ‘Coffee with a Cop’

First Ward City Councilor Sue Cahill, standing, is shown talking with several Marshalltown Police Department officers during a “Coffee with a Cop” session at the Orpheum Theater’s Coffee Shop Monday. Cahill was one of a number of residents who took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues with officers on several subjects. The Coffee Shop provided a free-of-charge pancakes from 9 am to 11 a.m. and a free-of-charge sack lunch from 11 am to 1 p.m. The MPD initiated “Coffee with a Cop” and “Pizza with a Cop” several years ago to break down barriers with residents. It is modeled after a highly successful “Coffee with a Cop” initiative created by the Hawthorne, California, police in response to tensions between residents and the police.
