A local man was arrested by Marshalltown police and taken to Marshall County Jail earlier this week on a warrant and for being in possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.
Lashawn Doncel Scates, 33, was found to be in possession of less than 1 gram of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense is a Class D felony.
A magistrate appointed a public defender to represent Scates and the defendant's preliminary hearing is Jan. 17. He is being held on $5,000 cash bond.
