There will be a new voice calling the Marshall County Board of Supervisors meetings to order after Steve Salasek was elected as board chairman at Wednesday's meeting.
Salasek, who won his seat on the board in 2016, will now lead the supervisors meetings. Board Vice Chairman Dave Thompson was also re-elected to his leadership position.
"I'm honored to be asked to do this," Salasek said.
Thompson and board member Bill Patten said Salasek is ready to take the helm.
"He's got two years under his belt, he's seen what goes on," Thompson said of Salasek. "A lot of what we do is somewhat repetition."
Salasek will take the place of Patten as chairman for 2019.
Additionally, the three supervisors approved their assignments to various commissions, committees and boards in the community.
Salasek will represent the board at the Marshall County Landfill Commission, Area Agency on Aging, Marshalltown Cluster Decategorization Child Welfare Service Plan, Mid-Iowa Community Action and Regional Workforce Development Board.
Thompson will serve with the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Commission, M.E.D.I.C., Center Associates Board of Directors, Region 6 Planning Commission and Marshalltown Regional Partnership.
Patten will represent the board at the Second Judicial District Department of Correctional Services, Emergency Management Agency, Marshall County Early Childhood, Central Iowa Community Services Governing Board and the Marshall County Joint E-911 Services Board.
County Auditor and Recorder Nan Benson shared a brief update on the Marshall County Courthouse post-tornado repair project at Wednesday's meeting. She said county officials have been looking at possible courthouse layouts and will continue that process this week.
She and county Buildings and Grounds Director Lucas Baedke have previously said they expect the courthouse to be open next summer.
The next Marshall County Board of Supervisors meeting is set for 9 a.m. Jan. 8 on the second floor of the Great Western Bank building, 11 N. First Ave.
