Boland’s goal lifts Bobcats at Linn-Mar
MARION — The Marshalltown boys’ soccer team extended its season with a 1-0 against Linn-Mar on Monday night in the Class 3A Substate 4 first round.
John Boland was the lone hero for the Bobcats (6-10) as he scored in the 20th minute on a set piece, and controlled the pace of the game all night.
Marshalltown outshot the Lions 12-to-5 and 7-to-4 with shots on goal. Linn-Mar (9-9) didn’t have a single shot on goal in the first half.
Linn-Mar goalkeeper Cody Ritter recorded five saves.
Ricky Ibarra was back in goal for MHS, making four saves. The win snaps a three-game losing streak and is the fourth one-goal win (and third 1-0 victory) of the season.
Marshalltown will now head back to Class 3A No. 1 Cedar Rapids Prairie (17-0) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for a shot at the substate final.
