West Marshall senior Isabelle Gradwell and Grundy Center junior Hailey Wallis have been selected as the Times-Republican All-Area Co-Players of the Year.
Gradwell earns the distinction for the second-straight season, as she was the 2016-17 Player of the Year. Gradwell finished this season with the most made 3-pointers in Class 3A with 89 hits from deep. That was the third-most three-pointers made in the state, regardless of class, and she averaged 21.8 points per game this season, tied for third in 3A.
Gradwell, who was a first-team selection for the inaugural Iowa Print Sports Writers Association also finished fourth in assists, ninth in blocks and 10th in defensive rebounds in 3A. She finished in tied for NICL West Division Player of the Year, along with AGWSR's Mandy Willems.
Wallis, a second-team IPSWA selection this season, was the captain of Class 2A All-State Tournament team after a tough battle in the final matchup against Cascade.
She averaged 14.9 points per game this season, racked up 88 total steals and 114 total rebounds. In the championship game against Cascade, Wallis scored the final 24 points for her squad and nearly willed the Spartans to a state title.
Wallis was also a first-team all-NICL West Division selection for the second-straight year.
