UNI women fall to K-State, 72-62

MANHATTAN -- The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team fell to Kansas State in its final non-conference game on the schedule, 72-62.

Three women scored in the double digits for the Panthers (7-5) as Karli Rucker and Ellie Howell each had 15 points and Taylor Hagen added 12. Bre Gunnels pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds, which she added to five points, and Rucker also had a team-high six assists.

UNI jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and was still up 16-12 after the first quarter, but the Wildcats (9-3) retook the lead at halftime at 32-29 after outscoring the Panthers 20-13 in the second.

Kansas State would add to that lead in the third by outscoring UNI 25-20, and the Wildcats would hold the Panthers at bay in the fourth to secure the 10-point win.

Peyton Williams had a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead Kansas State, while Kayla Goth had 12 points and a team-high seven assists and Christianna Carr finished with 11.

UNI starts Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday when it travels to face Illinois State, starting at 7 p.m. in Normal, Ill.
