IRVING, Texas -- University of Northern Iowa's Drew Foster was named the Big 12 Conference Wrestler of the Week, the second Panther to earn the weekly honor this season.
Foster dominated over the weekend at the Midlands Championships, boosting UNI to a second-place finish, the highest in program history at the tournament. Foster won the title at 184 pounds, as did Josh Alber at 141 for the first duo of individual titles ever at the Midlands for the Panthers.
Foster opened the Midlands with a 20-4 technical fall over Jonathan Morales from Purdue, then he pinned Jacob Gray from Central Michigan one second before the end of the second period. In the finals, Foster beat Iowa's Cash Wilcke in a tight 3-2 decision.
Foster joined Taylor Lujan as the only UNI wrestlers to earn the Big 12 weekly honor. Lujan won his first weekly honor last season in the Panthers' first year in the conference, and he got his second on Dec. 17.
