Ornamental grasses topic at Garden Club

Central Iowa gardeners who want to add some ornamental grasses to the home landscape, will want to attend the Marshalltown Garden club program, Ornamental Grasses for Midwest Gardens at 11 a.m. on Oct. 5. The speaker is Aaron Steil. Steil is the Statewide Consumer Horticulture Extension Specialist at Iowa State University. He provides information and resources for Iowans about home gardening, including information about trees & shrubs, perennials, annuals, vegetable gardening, fruit, lawns and houseplants. Danielson speaks at recent Chapter MJ meeting

The Sept. 21 meeting of P.E.O. Chapter MJ was held at 7 p.m. at the Binford House. Featured speaker was Amber Danielson of the Arts and Cultural Alliance. Danielson shared a slide presentation showing the progress Marshalltown has made in showcasing art and cultural projects like murals, pocket parks and creative place making areas since the tornado and derecho. 20th Century Club installs new officers

The 20th Century Club held its September Fall luncheon meeting on Sept. 21 at El Portal Restaurant. The Marshalltown High School Mariachi Band, under the direction of Brett Umthun, serenaded the group with several favorite Mexican songs.
