Thanks to the clear thinking of 9-year-old Travis Taylor, his family is alive to talk about the fire that totally destroyed their St. Anthony home. Travis awoke to black smoke in his room and managed to find his way to his parents room where he kicked the door until he awoke them and they could make their way outside.

Southwest Missouri State basketball team earned a 73-60 win over Augustana College to win the Central Region championship and advanced to the Elite Eight as Andrew Peschong, a junior player from Marshalltown, assisted in the win.

Jerald Kvinlaug-Lewis, Matt Minde and Andrew Chace worked stacking the collected food for the TaMaHa District Scouting for Food drive.

Fisher Elementary student Lizzy Moore qualified for the state invention convention with her Doggie Dual Harness, a rod that makes it easier to walk two dogs at the same time.

The South Tama Trojans managed to capture third place by winning the Class 3A consolation game at the Boys State Basketball Tournament when they defeated Carroll Kuemper 75-73 as Nathan Roberts led the scoring with 21 points followed by Mike Dvorak’s 14 and Todd Rosenberger’s 11 points.

Three Marshalltown piano students were Gold Cup winners in the Iowa Federation of Music Clubs junior music festival held at the University of Northern Iowa: Lori Kester, Mindy Wagar and Amy Wagar.

Five members of the Community Y Shaw Taekwondo program attended the Northeast Iowa Taekwondo championship with Cameron Vranek winning a gold medal in sparring and a silver in forms, Jacob Schmitt earning a bronze in sparring and Dane Winterton winning a gold in forms and a bronze in sparring.
