The East Marshall girls won four of the seven relays at the GMG Relays to capture the title: Megan Rhinehart, Kathi Eggleston, April Zesch and Amanda Bailey won the 4×800 relay; Angie Strain, Stephanie Beane, Nicole Nicholson and Kiffany Dunham, the distance medley relay; Jenny Weitzell, Beane, Nicholson and Eggleston, the sprint medley and Zesch, Marci Wolken, Tanya Hendricks and Dunham the 4×400 relay.

Marshalltown High School boys golf squad started its dual season with a 156-174 win over Knoxville as Brad Zeitner led the ‘Cats with an even par round of 35.

Class 2A No. 13 ranked South Tama/EM boys soccer team defeated Class 1A No. 8 ranked Pella Christian 4-1 as Keegan Seeman scored two goals and Nate Husak scored a goal to start the match.

In the Spot Shot Contest in Ames, Amber Chadderdon was second in the 8-9 year olds; Casey Cole, second, 10-11 year olds and boys, Jory Kruger, first, 8-9 year olds and Brian Ricken and Kent Holubar went first and second in the 10-11 year olds.

MHS girls tracksters nailed down second place at the Kennedy Invitational losing only to the host team as Denise Leavy and Donna Skinner were multiple champions in the individual events with Leavy winning the 200 meter hurdles and 400 meter dash and Skinner the discus and softball throw.

MHS claimed a third place finish in the Bobcat Invitational as the 13-team field saw four of the top five Class 4A girls golf squads take the course. Emily Allison recorded the low round for the ‘Cats with an 84, Emily Gray and Lora Collison both finished with an 86.

Former West marshall track standout Andy Goodman took first place in the 10,000 meter run for Central College in the Iowa State Small College Track and Field Championships and South Tama standout Dan Zimmerman led the Central sweep of the top four places in the 200 meter dash pushing Central to its third straight title.

MHS netters defeated Cedar Falls 504 as Jim Nieman, Frank Zink, Chad Krantman and Dan Clayton won singles matches.

BCLUW girls track and field team won the Mustang Relays 161-128.5 as Haddie Vawter got gold medals in the long jump, the 3000 meter run, the 800 meter run and with Kelsey Feltz, Jamie Fisher and Nicole Fisher won the 4×400 relay.

MHS girls recorded a second place finish at the 11-team J-Hawk Invitational as Angie Sommerlot took first in the 100 meter hurdles and Jill Anderson won the 400 meter dash and the distance medley team of Colleen Croker, Laura Kersbergen, Andrea Etter and Michelle Peter captured first.

Green Mountain won the Class B title at the Queens Relays as Rhonda Groth won the 440 yard dash, the 220 yard dash and anchored the winning sprint medley relay with Laurie Dawson, Julie Nicholson and Margaret Squire.

Hundreds of people attended Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA and participated in activities like tossing a ball into a bucket, having a picture painted on an arm like Breanna Hovey did or jousting as Eduardo Yepez and Martin Reyes did.

MHS boys tennis grabbed a 7-4 road victory over the J-Hawks of Urbandale winning four of the six singles matches were: Sonny Baccam, Cary Struebing, Joel Harmsen and Justin Young.

MHS senior Jaci Mayer and Jim Ridout, of Laurel, placed second and fourth in an art scholarship competition hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.
