Miller Middle School Science Olympias team placed fourth at the State Science Olympiad with first place finishes coming from Ian Ingram and Ryan McFarlin in the Bio Process Lab.

Miller Middle School and Lenihan Intermediate School students placed well at the state National History Day as Bryce King and Andrew Walker were finalists in the junior group; Tyler Ashby and Jameson Eberline were first in the sports history category; Drew Wynes woon the judges award and Allison Ashby was in a group performance on Jackie Robinson that was a finalist.

Students of Sandy’s Rainbow Twirlers Jessica Doane-Swanson, Chelsea Shaffer and Andrea Lowry practiced their baton routine for the “We’re Hot” program.

Bill Rector, a nine grade student at Lenihan, won a $500 scholarship for first place in the boys division of Optimist International district oratorical contest.

Emily Allison shot a medalist round of 37 to lead the Bobcat golf squad to victory over Ames and Grundy Center with a team score of 165-167-182 as teammates Lora Collison and Emily Gray each shot a round of 42.

West Marshall’s Brian Smith and Richard Affeldt teamed up with Adam Juel and Brian Karsjen to win the Class 1A district meet 4×400 relay to earn a trip to the state track meet.

MHS debate students were presented special awards during the debate team banquet: Deneen Argo, Outstanding Individual Events Person of the Year; Alison Grier, Outstanding Debater of the Year; Shari Niehouse Smith, special coach’s award and Rachel Brown, Outstanding Novice Debater of the Year.

BCLUW men’s golf squad coaches made good on their challenge when BCLUW won districts and sent medalist Nick Crawford and Same Thompson to regionals by swimming across the pond on the golf course after the win.

BCLUW sprinter Elijah Cuvelier had a big day at the Class 1A district meet finishing first in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and leading off BCLUW’s state qualifying 4×400 relay team.

MHS girl golfers led by Melinda Rassmusson shooting a 42 ser a new school team low record with 181 as they defeated Cedar Falls who finished with a 212.

Student committee members of the Anson Middle School/Trinity Lutheran Church partnership celebrating cultural diversity were: Laura Otto, Jerad Gulbranson, Emily Lindeman, Gwyn Callison, Andrew Terry, John Halverson and Tom Lovan.

The MHS spring play “The Best Laid Plans,” is a comedy about a dead spy who has secret plans on his body which every government wants to steal from Ada Westbrook, played by Diana Helmer. To keep the body from being stolen Michelle Crenza, played by Muff Parks, a spy and Hubert Pareit, Ada’s fiance played by Adam Davis, try to hide the body until they lose track of where it is.

MHS sophomore Lydia Martin added to her track resume when she qualified for state not only in the 3000- and 1500-meter runs, but added the 800-meter event as well.

Sarah Smeins, of Marshalltown, was awarded the Carol Grunke Gutmann Memorial Scholarship from Wartburg and Audrey Hanson, of Marshalltown, received the Carl Muench Scholarship from Wartburg.

MHS netters sailed by Des Moines Lincoln 8-1 as Jim Nieman led off the singles wins followed by wins of Frank Zink, Russ Welp, Chad Krantman and Dan Clayton.
