The East Marshall baseball team collected its 15th and 16th consecutive wins as it took the East Marshall Baseball Tournament crown with David Slingluff pitching a no-hitter 5-0 win against Pleasantville and then battled Pella to a 9-5 decision in the championship game.

The Brick Burners Lego team of: Jack Kester, David Blom, Daniel Blom, Zane Hala and Jared Mills along with junior mentor Chris Johnson scored 47th place out of the 84 teams in their first attendance at the World Festival of the FIRST Lego League.

The GMG Wolverines softball team rolled to a 5-1 win over Eldora-New Providence as Jeri Hartwig fired a two-hitter striking out eight while Kristin Ruff smacked a triple, drove in a run and scored a run.

Swimmers from six cities in Iowa were named to the all-American team of the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches of America including Beth Klinkefus, of Marshalltown, honorable mention for diving.

The MHS sophomores defeated Fort Dodge 7-2 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap as Alex Hoop held the Dodgers to two runs on four hits and added three hits to help his cause along with Kyle Carnahan’s three hits in the first game and Carnahan and Nick Wills combined for a three-hitting game each in the second game.

The MHS soccer team exploded for 10 goals in the second half in the 12-0 victory over Mason City as Jesse Clark scored three of the goals to the win.
