Astronaut Mike Mullane discussed some of the equipment used by NASA with East Marshall students Shaun Dormer, Phil Gonzalez and Kimberly Steveson as Sarah Harding took the position Mullane would use in take-off.

The Bobcats defeated West Waterloo 21-6 on a 64 yard punt return by slotback Steve DeVenney and a 27 yard touchdown bomb from quarterback Brad Zeitner to wide receiver Theron Schutte.

The West Marshall Trojans overcame two prior volleyball losses to Gladbrook-Reinbeck to defeat them 25-22, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-21 and advanced to the Class 2A Region 7 semifinals as Taylor Davis led the Trojans with 11 assists, Jordan Weitzell added 13 digs and Terami Kerwood had a team-high five blocks.

Marshalltown High School volleyball team swept pas Ames 15-1, 15-8 and 15-10 in the Class 3A semifinals as Sarah Eads had a big night with 25-of-29 up front, 10 kills, four digs and 12-of-12 serving with two aces.

England transplants Christine Dent, Anne Dent and Phillip got their first taste of Halloween as neighbors Cindy Webb and Cherie Webb invited them over to carve pumpkins.

The No. 4 ranked Bobcat football team won its first postseason game in school history as they defeated No. 10 ranked Indianola 49-14 as Jarred Carlson scored four touchdowns off of passes from Chanse Creekmur for 14 catches and 200 yards.

No. 10 ranked GMG finished with an 8-1 record as they defeated Alden 26-16 with Ryan Schulte leading the offense with 187 yards on 25 carries while Dan Slingluff led the defense with 12 tackles.

The 4-H livestock judging team of Rusty and Rod Hibbs, of Albion, and Tom and Jerry Donaldson, of Liscomb, won first place in the Invitational LinMar/Central City Livestock Judging Contest.

The BCLUW cross country boys grabbed second place in the Class 1A race as Dane McDonald finished second and Levi Storjohann placed sixth to lead the Comets.

No. 10 ranked Eldora-New Providence Tigers volleyball squad defeated Northeast Hamilton in four sets, 10-15, 15-4, 15-2 and 15-5 and advanced to the Class 1A regional finals against North Iowa of Buffalo Center as Abbie Brown pounded out 35-of-38 spikes with a whopping 23 kills.
