The 3-point weapon GMG wielded — 14 buckets — yielded the Wolverines a 71-61 win over East Marshall as Jacob Hlas led the scoring with 23 points, five long balls and Dustin Woebbeking finished with 19 points, four long shots.

The Marshalltown Public Library was awarded a gold LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council — first library in Iowa to attain this status — and 1000 Friends of Iowa gave it the 2009 Best Development Award for new commercial development.

Members of the East Marshall eighth grade Quest class, Emily Bowie, Jessie Phipps, Danielle Davis and Tina Kerns served lunch to the homeless at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.

The West Marshall wrestlers took championships in seven weight classes to defeat Marshalltown High School JV, Des Moines Roosevelt and Maxwell in the Trojan Invitational. Winning Trojans were: Jeff Arnold, Dan Arnold, Todd Breckenridge, Kevin Jacobs, Jim Clark, Ron Clark and Jeff Goodman.

BCLUW rolled in its final girls basketball game of the year to a 61-37 win over East Marshall as Krista Morris had a game high of19 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The BCL Grapplers tallied wins in nine weight classes in the 53-15 romp over BGM as Greg Morris and Craig Schwienebart opened with pins followed by Brent Olson and Brett Rhodes winning by forfeit, Bruce Olson on a decision and the last four by pin: Jeff King, Mark Schwienebart, Jeff Butters and Ellis McKibben.

Four members of Shaw Taekwondo tested for black belts: John Schuler, Jason Nusbaum, Laura Nelson, all first degree and Kevin Powers, second degree black belt. Nusbaum, 11, became the youngest Shaw Taekwondo to receive a black belt.
