Area graduates helped the University of Northern Iowa track team in the indoor track season opener: Stephen Dak, Marshalltown High School graduate, won the men’s 1-mile; Beau Dielschneider, BCLUW grad, won the 1,000-meter run and anchored the winning 4×400 relay and MHS grad Jill Lageschulte placed third in the 3,000-meter run.

Eric Hansen, 14-15 division and Nate Sinclair, 12-13 division, captured the championship in the 156 pound novice class and the 90 pound open class at the State Silver Gloves Boxing tournament.

The LDF girls remained undefeated in the Ta-Ma-Ja Conference as they beat Colo 58-45 with Robin Gray pacing the offense with 27 points.

MHS girls basketball player Lauren Lockhart scored a career-high 28 points, pulled down seven rebounds and went for 12-of-16 at the foul line as the Bobcats defeated Des Moines Roosevelt 52-47.

BCLUW students Anne Galloway, Nicole Shine, Ken Routon and Tim Thomas were chosen to participate in the 1995 Meistersinger Choral Festival in Waverly.

The MHS boys basketball team worked a slow down game to perfection and captured a 51-47 win over the Cedar Falls Tigers as Tim Walljasper led with 14 points and Dave Heddens dropped in 12 points.

The MHS boys bowling team toppled Dowling Catholic 2,899 – 2,447 as Cody Taylor rolled a 269 for a 460 set to lead the Bobcats and Shane Arment rolled a pair of 200 plus games for a 422 series.

MHS girls hit 23-of-29 free throws for 79 percent in the 70-67 win over Urbandale with Beth Nixon leading the scoring with 24 points.

The Marshalltown Y Swim Team swept six of 10 events to down Des Moines South Suburban Y swimmers 338-302 as Denise Hedrick lowered the 50-yard freestyle mark for ages 9-10 and then tied the 100 free mark.

Ryan Valline notched his 100th career victory as EM/GMG wrestlers lost only four matches in the 65-11 over Aplington-Parkersburg and the 68-12 over Gladbrook-Reinbeck/North Tama triangular.

The GMG boys cruised past BCLUW in the 72-48 win as Jeff Fouch ignited the Wolverines with 19 points followed by Tim Mull’s 15 points. J.C. Welton and Jason Bensen each scored 12 points.

With the Girl Scout Cookie sales in sight, Scouts Margaret Clark, Christine Miller, Wendy McFarland and Meredith Patterson presented the seven varieties of cookies and three kinds of nuts on sale.

West Marshall wrestlers won the Nevada Invitational Championship as they crowned five individual champions: Richard Affeldt, 171 pounds; Kevin Doser, 160 pounds; Jacob Randall, 152; Walker Buck, 140 and Brian Karsjen at 135.

Former MHS wrestler and sophomore wrestler at ISU, Mike Mann, was ranked No. 2 190 pound wrestler in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News.
