The Tuesday Musical Club met for their first musical program of the 2014-15 season on Oct.14 at the home of Donnis Grier. A musical program entitled “Music with Connections to Iowa” was presented by Kay Beach, Mary Giese (chair), Audrey Hafar, Pat Kirner, Julie Paustian and Marilyn Spafford. Musical selections included the “Iowa Corn Song” by Edward Riley, Antonin Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dance No. 1, Opus 46”, a number of selections from Meredith Wilson’s the Music Man including “Till There Was You”, “Lida Rose” “Goodnight, My Someone” and “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You.”
Following the selections from the Music Man “Autumn Leaves” by Roger Williams and compositions by Tuesday Musical composers including “Pilgrim Hymn” by Virginia Adams, “In Honor of Irene Grimes” and “In Honor of Zolene Melvin” by Hafar were shared. The program closed with the official State of Iowa song, “You Asked the Land I Love the Best” sung by all in attendance. Along with the wonderful musical selections numerous interesting historical facts were shared by Paustian along with a smattering of corny musical jokes shared by Kirner.
Following the musical program a business meeting was conducted by president Karen Engesser. Pumpkin bars, coffee and tea were served following the meeting by hostess Grier and tea committee members Cindy Mack and Jenn Pedersen.
