Legion Auxiliary has Christmas celebration

American Legion Auxiliary Unit #46 met in December at the Post Home. Hostesses for the evening were Arlene Kremer and Lillian Taylor. A potluck was enjoyed by members preceding the regular meeting.

The meeting was called to order by President Kremer. Minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were read and approved. We were reminded that the unit is responsible to ring bells for the Salvation Army on Dec. 12 at Hy-Vee. Kremer thanked those who had donated food items at the meeting for the Emergency Food Box.

Various committee reports were given. Barb Blake reported that interviews are being set up at the High School for girls interested in attending Girl’s State. Deadline to register is Feb. 28, 2015. The membership is at 154 or 59 percent of goal.

Two recommendations from the board were read and approved by the membership. One was to donate $200 to Iowa Department for gifts at the Iowa Veterans Home Gift Shop, which was held in December and $200 to IVH for gifts to be purchased for residents’ Christmas. The Unit had 13 members who had volunteered during the Gift Wrap at IVH on Dec. 2 and 3.

Happy Birthday was sung to Mary Alice Groff and Marcella Stewart. The group were reminded that there will be no meeting in January, but the Unit hosts Bingo at IVH on Jan. 16.

The next regular meeting will be at 2 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2015.

The meeting adjourned with a prayer, a song and the retiring of the Colors. A special night of entertainment followed in the spirit of Christmas.

Starting at $4.75/week.
