Marshalltown Men’s Chorus awards two scholarships

Lucas Wymore, a 2019 MHS grad and Benjamin Paper, a 2019 BCLUW grad, were each chosen to receive a $500 Marshalltown Men’s Chorus Music Scholarship this spring. Wymore is the son of Marty and Lisa Wymore, of Marshalltown and Paper is the son of Jason and Valerie Paper, of Conrad.

Wymore plans to attend the University of Iowa this fall with a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Music Performance. In his scholarship application, Wymore stated his career goal is to become a professional musician in order to perform in a variety of classical and jazz ensembles. In addition, he would like to design and enhance the function of musical instruments, specifically wind instruments. While in high school, Wymore participated in concert, marching, jazz and pep bands, honor bands, municipal band, Dorian band camp, National Honor Society and the robotics team.

Paper plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa this fall with a major in Theater Performance. In his scholarship application, Paper stated that he views music as a universal language and he hopes to find himself “on stage singing powerful songs to an audience of thousands and to positively impact their lives forever.” While in high school, Paper participated in a number of drama/theater activities, various choirs, speech, football, track and honor roll.

The Marshalltown Men’s Chorus offers a music scholarship each spring to male graduates of Marshalltown, West Marshall, East Marshall, GMG or BCLUW high schools. Applicants must have participated in vocal or instrumental music during high school with plans to attend an Iowa college/university and to continue participating in some type of music program or activity during post-secondary study.
