Liscomb Legion Auxiliary prepared for Veterans Day

LISCOMB — The Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unite 87 met at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Community Church in Union. Candy Wait hosted a dessert lunch following the meeting. Three ladies were present.

President Sharon Hatch called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Auxiliary Preamble and a moment of silence for the POW/MIAs and deceased veterans. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave the opening prayer from the November Auxiliary magazine.

Hatch reported on the Third District Fall Conference held in the Whitehill building of the Iowa Veterans Home. Fifty women were in attendance and a silent auction was conducted for the Merit Award program. Merit Award applications were passed out to each unit to be taken to local schools.

The BCLUW Middle School Veterans Day program would begin at 2 p.m. with Dr. Monte Selby as the program.

The Liscomb Community Center had a program at 9:45 a.m. for the veterans. The unit furnished a light lunch following the program. Hatch read “The Noble and the Brave.”

A donation was made to send to the IVH for cookies for the day in December.

Wait and Hatch are attending the Dec. 9 set-up day for the Christmas Gift Shop at the IVH.

The next meeting will be at noon on Dec. 4 at Hatch’s house in Whitten. The unit will go to Spanky’s in Gladbrook for the Christmas meeting.

Wait read a few facts on the Auxiliary 100th Anniversary on Nov. 10. Sorensen read the closing prayer for peace.
