Combined Honor Guard appreciation dinner at Post 46
The American Legion Auxiliary Post 46 hosted an appreciation dinner for the Combined Honor Guard, on Dec. 3 at the Post Home. The members of the Honor Guard provide final respects and honors for veterans and their families during all weather conditions including: heat, wind, cold, snow or even rain. The Auxiliary also recognized spouses for their behind-the-scenes involvement, preparations and support.
The evening began with a social time and fellowship at 6 p.m. and the event called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Debra Miller, American Legion Auxiliary president. Advancement of the Colors were provided by the Marshalltown Color Guard, pianist Madonna Wilson played the “National Anthem.” Opening prayer was given by Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson from Green Mountain.
Miller introduced special guest speaker Marty Mitchell from the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, who presented a heartfelt message to the Honor Guard. Wilson ended the program playing “God Bless America” with all attendees standing and singing along.
A dinner provided and served by the American Legion Auxiliary committee including Barb Blake, Linda Fuller, Dorothy Hellberg, Jean Huseboe, Connie Kennelley, Amy McCready, Miller and Tonya Warnell included homemade turkey and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon and onion, cranberry Jell-O salad, homemade dinner rolls and an assortment of pies.
A special delivery of the meal was also taken to the Marshalltown Police Department and the Marshalltown Fire Department, in appreciation as well.
Honorary guests included Pat Williams American Legion Auxiliary Third District, Marshall County and Unit president, Mike Hanken Color Guard member and Randy Kessler Commander Post 46.
