Retired School Personnel hear program on The Big House

The Marshall County Retired School Personnel Association met Dec. 16 at the Fisher Community Center. The program was The Big House and was presented by Grace Church pastor Brent Thiessen and Dave Kester.

The house was purchased by the church and is located at 110 N. Second St. Some teachers live on

the top floor. Its purpose is to aid elementary children with various needs and to teach the Bible. Most of the children are from Rogers because it is near. Some older students are also there to help.

Groups of children rotate through programs of Bible study, homework, tutoring and choice time where they play games, do other activities or go outside. Other events are planned as needed and for summer.

The meeting was called to order by Carole Permar. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and Paul Thompson led the singing of “God Bless America.” Minutes were read by Rita Smith. Otto Welfring gave the treasurer’s report. Thirty-one members were present.

It was reported that the book “Maps around the World” will be purchased for the library in memory of Bert Permar. Later another will be purchased in Liz Siemers’ memory.

The social committee of Randy Baker, Kathy Baker, Bev Rissius, Steve Kennedy and Thompson was thanked. The next meeting will be Feb. 24. The program will be The Murder of Anna Wiese provided by Ted Kamatchus.
