ISU student athlete program at Rotary

Student athlete development at Iowa State University was the topic of the Marshalltown Rotary Club’s Jan. 21 luncheon meeting.

Assistant Athletics Director Amber Giese oversees a department of 10 that works with more than 450 student athletes. She offered a glimpse of a recruiting message that highlights the university class sizes and student/faculty ratio.

Giese shared a typical daily schedule for a freshman student athlete and described how the department helps structure plans to help with transition. From tutoring programs to career planning, these efforts have helped the athletes obtain the highest GPA in the school’s history.

The five core values of Rotary are fun and fellowship, service, leadership development, integrity and diversity.
