Lioness hear about training of leader dogs for the blind

The Marshalltown Lioness met on March 9, at the First United Church of Christ with President Dessa Hattenfield presiding.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of “God Bless America” and table grace led by Charlotte McGinty. A meal furnished by Mary Bryant and Martha Fisher followed.

Guest speaker Erica Briest, first vice district governor of Lions District 9MC, spoke about her visit to the Lions Leader Dog Training campus in Rochester Hills, Mich., where guide dogs for the blind are trained. These are provided free to the blind, although a trained leader dog, when ready to be placed, is valued at $44,000. After the program, Lioness members collected money for Briest to donate to the Leader Dog program.

Hattenfield announced that the Lions 9MC Convention will be held on March 27-28 at the American Legion Building in Gladbrook.

A Lioness Tip Night Fundraiser is scheduled at Culvers on April 14 .

Tailtwister Bev Roupp collected fines from members, told a cute story and had a drawing for a Shamrock plant that went to Diana Freiboth.

The meeting closed with the Lioness Prayer.

The next meeting will be held on April 13 at the First United Church of Christ with Maid Rites as the meal for the meeting.
