100 Women Who Cares hosts email meeting

The April meeting of 100 Women Who Care – Marshalltown generated $21,450 in donations to area agencies/projects.

Even though the membership did not meet in person, the generous donations just kept rolling in. An email was sent to the membership asking them to submit agencies or projects that need donations. The submissions were written using 50 words or less. Twelve submissions were sent to the membership and the donation checks were written to the member’s choice agency. Many members wrote more than one check or amounts larger than the usual $100; $21,450 was raised.

Top eight agencies receiving donations were:

• Emergency Food Box — $7,100

• Mid Iowa Workshops — $2,375

• Stork’s Nest at Child Abuse Prevention Services — $2,225

• Salvation Army — $1,975

• MICA – $1,875

• UnityPoint Health — Marshalltown COVID-19 fund — $1,700

• Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support (ACCESS) — $1,575

• Sal’s Pantry at the Salvation Army — $1,550

Other agencies/projects receiving $550 or less included Friends of the Orpheum, Marshalltown High School Band Boosters for the band trailer upgrade, the MHS Color Guard and Guiding Star Marshalltown ministry.

“This has been an awesome response to need in our community,” Janet Collison, steering committee, said. “A simple email was written and the donations came rolling in — big, generous donations. This generosity of 100 Women Who Care — Marshalltown was more than I could have hoped for; together, we are making a difference.”

Since inception in 2012, $373,150 has been given to area agencies and projects.

The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 22 and membership is open to any woman in the community. Email Janet at janet.collison@gmail.com for more information on how to join.
