VFW Auxiliary installs new officers

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Post 839 met on June 18 at the post home. The meeting started at 6 p.m. with 18 members present.

Connie Kennelley, president, conducted the meeting according to the ritual and the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. May minutes were read and approved, the treasurer’s report was filed for audit and membership was reported at 100 percent.

Judy Schiebel reported 171 members contributed 824 hours for community service, which amounted to $4,296.94. Correspondence from the National Community Service Chairman concerning rules for reporting the community services was read and discussed.

The Money March was conducted and a prayer was said for the VFW National Home for Children.

Ken Breinig was recognized for his service as Commander to the Marshalltown Combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard. Doris Lemker, Linda Tasler and Deloris Clayton were recognized for 30 plus years of service to the VFW Auxiliary.

Happy Birthday was sung to Kennelley and Tammy Tuttle.

Reports were given by members who sent letters to government representatives. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the Puppy Paws presentation has been postponed to a later date; to be determined.

In honor of recently deceased members, the Charter was draped for Ethelyn Lee Clay and Mary Lou Hurt.

Delores Clayton installed the new officers for the 2020 – 21 VFW Auxiliary year: President – Kennelley; Sr. Vice President – Schiebel; Jr. Vice President -Tasler; Secretary – Theresa Shepherd; Treasurer – Tuttle; Chaplain – Liz Polkiewicz; Conductress – Linda Fuller; Guard – Carol Ewalt; Trustees – Marla Kremer, Clayton and Diane Welch.

The meeting closed according to ritual.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on July 16.
