Twenty members of Chapter JU of the P.E.O. Society met at the country home of Marlys Smith for a boxed lunch and business meeting at 11 a.m. on Sept. 20.
New member, Kathy Duncan, was initiated and welcomed into the chapter as was transferring member Jennie Van Gundy. Bonnie Herbold, Julie Schlesinger, Rita Riskedahl and Kathy Duncan all served on the tea committee for the luncheon. The next meeting will be Oct. 4 at the home of Ann Isgrig at 1 p.m. Smith reported on the Christmas Social scheduled for December and Chapter JU members signed up for hostess duties included with it.
After the business meeting concluded, Kirstan Condit gave an informative program recognizing membership milestones for Eleanor Tjossem, 70 years and Carole Weber, 50 years. She told of special events and news of those years, new products, average income, best movies and actors/actresses, showed pictures of the fashions of the time that a P.E.O. Sister might wear to a meeting and played popular music of the day. She asked both members what they remembered from their initiation and where it took place. Tjossem was presented with a certificate and Weber a pin as well as beautiful mum plants. Duncan also received a mum plant in token of joining Chapter JU.
