Miss United States Agriculture speaks to Laurel Auxiliary
LAUREL — The Harold McBroom Laurel American Legion Auxiliary #635 met at the Legion Home on Wednesday Oct. 20. There were eight members present.
President LaDonna Runner opened the meeting with Laura Tribby giving the prayer. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, stood in silence for POW’s, MIA’s and deceased veterans. Members recited the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Minutes of the September meeting were read, corrections were made and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and accepted for audit.
A new member, Missy Sharer Pieters, was introduced.
It was reported that a member, Phyllis Runner, had passed away and a card and monetary donation was sent.
In new business, Tribby made a motion to send $10 each to the persons that made poppies for 2020 and 2021 Memorial Days. Seconded by Nancy Schroyer. Approved.
Motion was made and seconded to send $100 for gift cards to the Gift Shop at the Iowa Veterans Home. It was also voted to send money to the Department Presidents Project and the Third District Presidents project.
The unit voted to have a fundraiser on Nov. 6. It will be at the Laurel Legion Hall from 9 a.m. until noon. It will be a Christmas decoration swap. People may bring unwanted Christmas decorations to the Hall from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5. They can come on Nov. 6 and purchase a bag for $10 and fill it up. A pastry bar and coffee will be available.
Ally Lemar presented a program on becoming Miss United States Agriculture. She is an advocate for agriculture and other things.
