VFW Auxiliary holds February meeting
The February 2022 general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met at the post home on Feb. 17.
The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Vice President Judy Schiebel, followed by opening ceremonies according to ritual. There was a total of six members; of which five were officers. The opening prayer was given by Linda Fuller in the absence of Chaplain Liz Polkiweicz. Secretary Deb Miller read the January minutes. Carol Ewalt motioned to approve the minutes as read, seconded by Kay Bell. Motion passed. February General Orders were then read by Schiebel. There was no correspondence. Donna Mitchem, Treasurer gave the Treasurer’s Report, it was approved as given, subject to audit. One bill from the VFW Store for the VFW Auxiliary Flag and 10 Podium Edition Bylaws and Ritual 2022 Books was presented for payment. Fuller recommended payment and motioned to pay, seconded by Bell. Motion passed.
Fuller and Miller were recognized for February Birthdays.
Committee Reports: It was noted that all committee reports are due on April 1. Fuller, legislative chair, reported there were no legislative letters or responses for the past month. She also asked that the Unit keep sending the letters in for GWOT Memorial Location Act, Richard Star Act and The Cost of War Act and Pact Act.
Bell reported that 2,887 manufacturer coupons were collected with 405 of them going to CIRSI and the remainder being sent to deployed military service members. Discussion was held on whether the coupons going to CIRSI are being utilized. Fuller will investigate.
Sixty-six Community Service Volunteer Hours by 32 volunteers with a dollar value of $354.78 was reported by Schiebel. Discussion was held on whether Iowa Veterans Home records volunteer hours for auxiliary members. Miller will follow up with IVH Volunteer Services Coordinator and report back.
In the absence of old business, The National Home Prayer was recited.
NEW BUSINESS: Tenderloin Dinner fundraiser will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 18. Preparations for the cheesy potatoes and coleslaw will begin at 9 a.m.
Discussion was held on the cost to the members of the Podium Edition Bylaws and Ritual 2022 Book. They were $7.25 plus shipping and handling which came to more than $9 per book. Fuller made a motion that the auxiliary charge $10 per book, seconded by Ewalt. Motion carried. With no further business, Fuller gave the closing prayer and Schiebel closed the meeting according to ritual at 7:30 p.m.
The next meeting will be held on St Patrick’s Day at 6:30 p.m., March 17 at the post home.
