Liscomb Auxiliary makes plans for spring events

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at 1:30 p.m. on March 10 at the Union Public Library with five members present.

President Sharon Hatch called the meeting to order. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Auxiliary Preamble were recited by all. A moment of silence was observed for the MIA/POWs and deceased veterans. The secretary read minutes of the January meeting and they were approved as read.

A donation was made to the Union Library as the monthly meeting place.

Hatch and husband Bill attended Auxiliary and Legion Mid Winter Conference in Des Moines. Membership was the focus at this meeting. The buddy check program was also stressed to all members.

Hatch and Candy Wait went to the Iowa Veterans Home on March 3 to serve banana splits to the residents at Malloy Hall. They served around 50.

March 12 is the Marshall County Spring Conference to be held at the Conrad Legion. Registration is $2, the meeting will start at 10 a.m. Coffee and rolls will be served by Conrad Unit 681.

Hatch reported the Third District Junior Spring Conference will be held at Gladbrook Memorial Hall on April 3. Registration is $1 and lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Hatch and Wait plan to attend. Pop tabs are still collected by the Junior Members.

Auxiliary Third District Spring Conference will be held at the Toledo Legion Post on March 19. Registration is $2 and a lunch will be served for $7 at the Tama Legion Post. Wait and Hatch will take the cedar school house for donation to the Merit Fund.

Next meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. on April 7 at the Union Public Library.

Sorensen gave the closing prayer for the veterans and peace for the world. She read “Those Were the Days.”
