Marshalltown VFW airs business items

Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 apparently will operate its 2022-23 year with mostly the same officers as the past two terms. Rob Shepherd, commander of Harry C. Harter Post was again nominated along with his staff in first and second call concluding Tuesday’s March meeting. Third and final call comes at the April 19 meeting.

The 16 members in attendance processed a wide list of other items, including fundraisers such as the 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on April 1 public fish fry and potential tip nights.

Post 839 charter was draped in honor of life member Eugene (Lefty) Goodman. Bob Miller, area VFW/American Legion Honor Guard leader, reminded that a bus would meet at Meadow Lane quarters the following Monday to take Honor Guard to Goodman’s cemetery rites in Melbourne.

Prior to Tuesday’s meeting Russ Paul of Timber Creek Enterprise Inc. discussed plans for providing new countertops in VFW facilities, beginning in the coming week.

Quartermaster Roger Dirks reported a new Post 839 member: Richard Carver, a marine veteran living in Marshalltown.

Rick Johnson, Post guard, addressed topics such as needed roof repair and up coming fundraiser meals.

Shepherd spoke about the planned political mural to be posted outside the building. Other rituals were handled by Gary Scott, chaplain; Larry Tuttle, adjutant; Russ Rosenberger, jr. vice; Jerry Kremer, trustee; and Steve Hyde, judge advocate.

Starting at $4.38/week.
