YMCA-YWCA senior programs presented at MCRSPA meeting

The Marshall County Retired School Personnel Association met April 11 at the Marshalltown Library. The program was presented by Angie Paxon. It was “YMCA Senior Opportunities and Parkinson’s Disease.”

One opportunity is Rock Steady Boxing which can enhance the quality of life for those with Parkinson’s for both men and women. Other activities offered are book club, hobby crafts, line dancing, aquatic activities, modified exercise groups and pickle ball.

The meeting was called to order by Carole Permar. Minutes were read by Barb Vana. Treasurer, Otto Welfring, gave the treasurer’s report. He announced that dues could be paid now. Eleven members were present. The group was reminded to keep track of volunteer hours.

Books are donated to the library in memory of members who have passed away. “Trees, Leaves and Flower Seeds” will be given in memory of Mel Schuchmann. “Accounting for Dummies” will be donated in memory of Lyle Niemeyer. Carole Permar mentioned that there is a Spanish conversation group at the library.

Possible programs for next year were discussed.

The social committee of Sally Jansen, Diane Avery, Becky Rakers and Marge Grimes was thanked. The next meeting will be May 16 at the library. It will be a potluck lunch. The committee will be Doris Hildebrant, Carolyn Hanchek, Phil Tetzloff, Linda Holvik and Lois Eige.
