DAR Spinning Wheel Chapter promotes importance of voting
The Spinning Wheel Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on Oct. 21 at the Marshalltown Library. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the American’s Creed. The program following the meeting was “The Importance of Voting.” Featured speakers were Marshall County Auditor/Recorder & Commissioner of Elections, Nan Benson, and Jessie Chizek, assistant auditor and Deputy of Elections.
They spoke of ways to register to vote in Iowa. Few states have Same Day Registration like Iowa has. Persons can mail paper forms to register to vote to the County Auditor or to Secretary of State. They can register in-person at the County Auditor/Recorders office, when applying for or renewing drivers’ license or register online at www.sos.iowa.gov or register on Election Day.
There are several ways to vote in Marshall County, such as Absentee by mail or in person at the Election Center (old Fire Station) until 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 or a team will come to the vehicle there, or Car Side at the polling location on Election Day. General Election Day is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 8.
The DAR is proud to be able to promote the right to vote secured for us by brave service men and women and who continue to defend that right today.
