Legion Auxiliary concludes three busy months
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 46 have been busy the past three months. August guests were Yessenia Alvarez-Zamora and Leslie Rangel who attended this past summers Girls State.
Several members helped with the Wall that Heals. The unit participated in the Oktemberfest Parade with a float and handing out 600 American flags wearing the new t-shirts. Several members attended the Homeless stand down in Des Moines.
President Debra Miller attended the state and district ALA meetings. Membership renewals are due by the end of the year. Oct. 24, the Culvers tip night, proceeds will go to the restoration of the ball diamond at Iowa Veterans Home. The group donated towards the period pouch project. A dinner for the 40 & 8 group will be held Oct. 26.
Carol Geil, executive director of the Marshalltown Community College Foundation, was introduced by Barb Blake. Persons need to check with the Veterans Affairs office for cancer claims Pact Act, by veterans and offspring affected by those drinking water at Camp LeJeune and who were in fire pits in the middle East.
A detailed budget was presented by Dorothy Hellberg and Laurel Degelau. The group will host an appreciation night in December for the combined honor guard which is made up by the Marshalltown American Legion and VFW members. The unit continues to supply cookies to the Iowa River Hospice house. A patriotic quilt raffle will begin around Thanksgiving with tickets to be sold for $5 or 4 for $20. The quilt was donated by the Central Iowa Quilt Sew-ciety.
