Retired School Personnel hear about Norway trip

The Marshall County Retired School Personnel Association met Feb. 13 at the Marshalltown Public Library. Diane and Keith Oleson presented a program with pictures and narration about a trip to Norway last summer. Highlights of the sixteen day trip included a bus trip through the many fiords, delicious breakfast buffets, barley, oat and rye farms, cobblestone streets, waterfalls and many forms of bicycles which were a major form of transportation.

The meeting was called to order by President Carole Permar. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Rita Smith. Permar gave the treasurer’s report in the absence of Otto Welfring. There were no outstanding bills. There were 24 members present and one guest.

Members were reminded to keep track of volunteer hours. Phil Tetzloff reported that the IPERS CEO is studying the impact of the new legislation on parental choice and vouchers. IPERS has no proposed legislation at this time.

The social committee of LaVonne and Arlo Hildahl, Carolyn Salasek, Linda Holvick and Tetzloff was thanked.

The March 20 program will be presented by Billy Wilson and will focus on Ireland’s independence from England through song. The social committee will be Joy and Gary Bryant, Diane Avery and Pat Sutton.
