Liscomb Auxiliary holds Poppy meeting

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at 1:30 p.m. on May 3 at President Sharon Hatch’s house in Whitten.

Hatch opened the meeting. Chaplain pro-tem Toni Kinney gave the opening devotions. The Unit had four members present and a special guest Third District President Sandy Scallon from Ackley. A moment of silence for MIA/POW and deceased veterans was observed. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Auxiliary Preamble were recited. Roll call was a special memory of Mother’s Day for each member. Kinney made a motion to send Iowa Veterans Home poppy maker a donation. On April 21, Candy Wait and Hatch went to the IVH to make poppies, a lot of ladies were there helping. Had a nice lunch there at noon. Wait distributed poppies to all members, a poppy display was put in the Union Library. Hatch read “In Flanders Field” and an article on Moina Michael known as “The Poppy Lady.”

Hatch spoke on her time as Third District President. She has served for around 1.5 years. She has made many friends through Auxiliary. She is collecting plastic sacks to make benches for four different places.

• May 11 is IVH garden box planting starting at 9 a.m.

• May 16 is Oscar Tractor show at IVH from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wait passed out a poppy quiz to each member to fill out.

A birthday cake and meat, cheese and cracker plate was served for Hatch’s birthday.

Next meeting will be at noon on June 8 for lunch at Hatch’s house in Whitten.

Chaplain pro-tem Kinney gave closing prayer for Peace. Meeting adjourned.
