Unusual trees and shrubs program

For Central Iowa gardeners who want to add some new trees or shrubs to the home landscape will want to attend the Marshalltown Garden Club program, ‘New and Unusual Trees and Shrubs for Iowa.’ The presentation is at 11 a.m. on June 5 at the ISU Extension office. The speaker is Barry Laws, of Quilted Gardens in Indianola. Quilted Gardens and Nursery started as an outgrowth of collecting and growing hostas, interesting perennials, unusual trees and shrubs and an interest in unusual conifers. They are an independent nursery specializing in unusual and collector perennials, trees, Japanese maples, shrubs and conifers. Some less well-known shrubs are ‘Sugar Shack’ buttonbush, ‘Hummingbird’ summersweet and ‘Pufferfish’ hydrangea and unique trees such as ‘White Tigress’ maple, variegated horsechestnut and ‘Grindstone’ gingko. They will also bring some interesting plants for sale. This program is open to the public and is held at the ISU Extension office at 2608 S. Second St. in Marshalltown.

Starting at $4.38/week.
