Emergency Food Box program at Ave Maria Club

The Ave Maria Study Club met April 12 at St. Henry Education Center in the Madonna Room. Co-Chair Sandy Good opened the meeting at 1:05 p.m. She introduced the program presenter, Cindy Staron. The afternoon began with Good leading the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary for health issues of members and Rose Ann Jero’s nephew. Those in attendance enjoyed strawberry shortcake and fellowship. Assigned hostesses were Thonia Chua and Edith Podhajsky. Marg Higgins, Good and Jero served for them.

Jero introduced program presenter, Staron. Staron is the operations co-chair of the Emergency Food Box with Cindy Seberger. Staron shared some history of the Emergency Food Box and some details of the daily operations. Currently there are about ninety volunteers who fill the many jobs which need to be done. The Food Rescue program was explained. She answered questions and invited everyone to the 40th Anniversary celebration which will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on April 21 at the Coliseum. There will also be an opportunity to walk over and visit the new location at 107 N. First St. Good presented Staron with a $50 check for the EFB. Club members also brought several boxes of cereal and two can openers for the EFB.

Jero lead the offering of a blessing for Staron and the volunteers who work to carry out the mission of the EFB which responds to Matthew’s gospel 25:35 “for when I was Hungry, you gave me food.”
