Liscomb Auxiliary celebrates Veterans Day

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the home of President Sharon Hatch in Whitten. Present were six members. Hatch called the meeting to order. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave opening devotions. Members recited the Auxiliary Preamble and Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence was observed for the MIA/POW and deceased veterans. Secretary Candy Wait read minutes of Oct. meeting. Approved.

Hatch reported that her and Wait went to BCLUW Middle School for its Veterans Day Program. A small American flag was presented to all veterans present by the kids. Hatch read an article on Veterans Day from the Legion Magazine.

Wait took BINGO money for the Iowa Veterans Home for BINGO day Nov. 15. She took a donation from the Unit to Lily Mae Chocolates in Marshalltown for candy bags for all Veterans at IVH. The Unit is sending 29 Christmas Cards to IVH residents who have no family.

Sharmon Norris a Unit member took 29 boxes of Kleenexes to the BCLUW Middle School in Union.

Next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 12 at Sunshine Café in Eldora. Chaplain read closing prayers for peace.

Toni Kinney motioned to adjourn.

Vickie Penner gave each member a red pot holder filled with a bag of cookie mix, a Santa cookie cutter and a Santa spatula.

Members celebrated Dorothy Sorensen’s 96 birthday with cake and ice cream served by hostess Hatch.
