Business meeting held by VFW Auxiliary

The VFW Auxiliary Unit 839 held the January meeting on Jan. 28. Seven members were in attendance. President Theresa Shepherd opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. followed by the opening ceremonies. Opening praying was led by chaplain Donna Mitchem. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by Patriotic Instructor Kay Bell. Committee reports were as follows. Carol Ewalt reported she had sent 2,460 stamps to Stamps for the Wounded. She also had sent two veteran’s Birthday cards at Iowa Veterans Home. Diane Welch reported she had cut out 893 coupons to give to the American Auxiliary for veterans. No treasurer report from Deb Miller, absent due to sickness.

Unfinished business was next. Questions were asked about if the post would be having its annual fish fry’s. They plan on having two but no dates have been set. Planning on preparing a meal for a group on Feb. 8. Wanting to get final count to go forward. Linda Fuller mentioned about buying several new pans for the cakes. Members discussed to go forward with making arrangements for the Food Drive for the Emergency Food Box that has been postponed several times. Shepherd and Fuller will contract parties involved to hopefully set it up for March 1. No one attended Mid-Winter Conference in Des Moines on Jan. 28 because of illness. Marian Hyde has a pattern for an apron for us to make for the post. Mitchem will contact her about it.

New Business. The auxiliary draped the chapter in remembrances for Past President Agness Voss and Past National District Council Member #11 Laurel Ann Wiese on Jan. 16 and Jan. 25, respectfully. The National Home Prayer was recited. The closing prayer was conducted by Mitchem. Shepherd closed the meeting according to the Ritual. Next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the Post Home.

Starting at $4.38/week.
