Allison Stewart, work-based learning program specialist at Iowa Valley Community College District’s Business and Community Solutions office, spoke to the Optimist Club of Marshalltown at its Feb. 27 weekly meeting.

Stewart talked about the IVCCD Apprenticeship Program that has been operating since August, 2023. The program provides opportunities for high school students and community members interested in health care careers to apprentice at partnering health care institutions such as UnityPoint Health, McFarland Clinic and Oakview in Conrad.

According to Stewart, the high demand for participation has caused the program to expand its list of partners to nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Stewart shared that there are 27 people currently on the waiting list for the program.
