Chapter MJ, P.E.O., continued its focus on education during the current program year with a presentation about the Marshalltown Christian School at its Sept. 15 meeting. The meeting was held at the Marshalltown Christian School, with Bethany Wirin, Head of School, and Director of Academics, Jeff Groth, sharing information about the school, its history, mission and student and staff make-up. Past MCS Board member Marilyn Downs was also present as a guest.

The Marshalltown Christian School will be celebrating its 20th year of operation in 2026. They serve 123 students in grades K-8, with approximately one-third of the students learning English as a Second Language. The school is an accredited non-public school.

The chapter conducted its regular business meeting following the presentation. Results of the Points for P.E.O. Projects fundraiser were announced in which members pledged contributions based on the total number of points scored by either ISU or the University of Iowa during the recent intrastate rivalry football game. Approximately $1,200 was raised to be given to International and State project funds and chapter member Janine Campbell won the $50 gift certificate for predicting the winner of the game and guessing the final score most closely to the actual score.

Beth Currie reported on the International P.E.O. Star Scholarship, which is given to exceptional women in the final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the U.S. or Canada in the next academic year. The award amount is $2,500.

Jennifer Allison shared a short biography about herself as part of the chapter’s activities to help members become better acquainted with each other.
