VFW Auxiliary discusses upcoming Tip Nights, membership

The VFW 839 Auxiliary meeting held on July 16 at the Post Home. President Theresa Shepherd called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. followed by the opening ceremonies according to Ritual. Secretary Pam Gorham took roll call and there were 10 members in attendance. Installation of new member by Deloris Clayton for the duty of 2027. Mike Long installed to be a Chaplain. Long recited the opening prayer. Patriotic Instructor Kay Bell was absent, so Clayton reminds us of duty to the flag. The members recited the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Shepherd. Gorham presented the minutes of June and read the General Orders. Minutes Approved. Treasurer Report: Treasurer Deb Miller gave the treasurer report. The report approved and subject to audit.

Communication report: Miller reported one correspondence this month from Marian Hyde thanking the Auxiliary for the Honor Banners. Miller gave the Quarterly Audit Finance Report: Diane Welch made the first motion, the Audit to be approved. Clayton seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Community Reports: Legislative: Gorham report the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act. H.R. 9237. Concerning this bill, it includes cutting disability compensation for tinnitus and sleep apnea to pay for the other provisions from our veterans. Hospital: Clayton report June 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Home. There are new updated bingo dates for the veterans at the IVH. Members will be receiving either emails or flyers at the next meeting. Welch reported 114 coupons cut out and sent on.

OLD Business: Pow Wow in Sept. 11-12, VFW Post #9662 in Des Moines wanting to know if anyone had planned to go, Clayton is interested in going. Various shirts for sale. If anyone is interested let Miller know. Miller is contacting Applebee’s for fundraising it involves flyers or pictures, decided to wait after Culver’s Tip Night. September or October. Culver’s Tip Night set up from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 20. Gorham reported the Auxiliary has various volunteers to help. Just need to update the flyer on the tip jar. The finance report approved, subject to audit. Audit Approved. Long volunteered to use his phone number to get information on flyers and TR to learn the requirements to join the VFWA Post 839, Marshalltown.

New Business: Miller is going to make flyers to help promote new members for the VFWA Post 839, Marshalltown. Asked all members to help distribute the flyers. Long closed the meeting with the closing prayer and Shepherd closed the meeting with the Ritual.

Next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 the VFW Home Post 839. If anyone is interested in joining the VFWA; call 641-295-1588 for the requirements.
