ALA Unit 46 holds general meeting

By Times-Republican 3 min read

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 11 by Meg Sponseller followed by opening prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, standing in silence and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Following the annual salad and dessert supper, one of the Girls State representatives, Rory Piscitelli, was introduced. The representatives and their families are asked to join the ALA for a meal and then give a brief presentation about the week at Girls State. Piscitelli enjoyed her time learning about the U.S. government and was extremely grateful for the opportunity to represent Unit 46. Nyemaide Harmon also represented Unit 46 but was unable to attend the meal.

June meeting minutes were read by Kellie Allen. A motion to approve as read was made by Deb Ewoldt and seconded by Barb Rasmussen. Dorothy Hellberg gave the treasurer's report noting the deposits and disbursements. Hellberg also gave a recap of the year's end financial report for the 25'-26' fiscal year. Sponseller gave the membership report in Trish Crosser's absence. Crosser will begin processing membership dues next week.

Hellberg spent a large portion of the meeting presenting the proposed budget for the 26'-27' fiscal year. A motion to approve was made by Linda Fuller, and was seconded by Jackie Zimmerman. The proposed budget passed with all members in attendance in favor.

Some of the projects the Unit has been working on are wrapping up. Those include a Nate Howard Memorial bench, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2 Golf tournament hole sponsorship and the Applebee's fundraiser.

The Rada Cutlery fundraiser will continue to be open through the end of the year. For those interested in making a purchase, can find the link on the ALA Unit 46 Facebook page.

The Unit plans to participate in the 40th annual Oktemberfest parade on Sept. 26. Members interested in participating can find information on the Facebook page.

Three big events coming up include the Legion Family 3rd District Conference on Sept. 19, a Fall Classic Golf Tournament hosted by the Legion on Sept. 26 and an Honor Guard Appreciation meal on Nov. 12.

The meeting was closed out with a list of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. The next general membership meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 8 in the lower level of the Legion.
