The Emergency Food Box Board held its third quarterly meeting July 16 at 107 N. First St. Chair Gary Fulton called the meeting to order at 5:04 p.m. with 14 board members present. Pastor LaCosta VanDyk led the opening prayer. The minutes of the April meeting sent to all board members by email were approved as printed. Treasurer LeRoy Jero presented the treasurer's report. He reported that donations have been very good. The Emergency Food Box is in a very sound financial position. The report will be filed for audit. John Fink provided a copy of the statement of activity for 2026. Conny Schutte presented the report for the operations committee. A copy was emailed to board members. One of the ideas discussed at the April 8 Operations Committee meeting was staying open later.
Building and grounds chair Denny Newton reported that a new lawn mower has been purchased. The ADT Security Cameras are working.
Meg Sponseller moved to increase the spending limit from $500 to $2,000 per incident for building and grounds repairs and maintenance. VanDyk seconded the motion. The motion carried. Matt Broshar moved that the EFB purchase a maintenance contract with Goodwin-Tucker for every six months. The motion was seconded and carried. Ron Crow informed the board that the EFB received the 2026 outstanding achievement award as the best non-profit organization in Marshalltown, based on a Google review. The next board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 15.
