VFW Auxiliary Aug. 20 meeting minutes

The VFW 839 Auxiliary meeting was held on Aug. 20 at the Post Home. President Theresa Shepherd called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. followed by the opening ceremonies according to Ritual. Secretary Pam Gorham took roll call with Conductress Donna Mitchem responding 10 members in attendance. Jr. Vice President Judy Schiebel was absent. Two visitors, Mary Milligan and Susan Conder. Chaplain Mike Long recited the opening prayer. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Patriotic Instructor Kay Bell.

Secretary Pam Gorham presented the minutes of July and read the General Orders No. #3. Minutes were approved and subject to audit. Treasurer Report: Treasurer Deb Miller gave the treasurer report. The report approved and subject to audit.

Communication report: Clayton reported that a veteran has donated a check. She made motion this be divided between the Auxiliary and bingo. Second motion was made by Mitchem. Motion carried. Community Reports: Legislative: Linda Fuller Report the Take Care of America's Veterans Act. H.R. 9237. Concerning this bill. But, thanks to our contacts with the legislation the brakes were able to put on hold for now. Hospital: Clayton report Aug. 21 bingo at 9:30 a.m. moved to the Aug. 28 at the Iowa Veterans Home. There are new updated bingo dates for the veterans at the IVH. The VFWA will be receiving either emails or flyers at its next meeting. Welch reported 232 coupons and Ewalt reported 2,241 stamps.

Old business: Inform Fuller or Shepherd who need a ride to attend either meeting: Aug. 29 Fall District Meetings 4th District meetings Oskaloosa #2337. Fall Conference in Sept. 11-12, VFW Post #9662 in Des Moines. Culver's Tip Night is set up on Aug. 25th, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Long recited the Natl. Home Prayer.

New Business: Schiebel will be updating us on poppies signup sheet date, place, time info. Investigation Committee: Mitchem, Welch, Ewalt held after Aug 20 meeting. Long closed the meeting with the closing prayer and Shepherd closed the meeting with the Ritual.

Next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sept 17 at the VFW Home Post 839, Marshalltown. If anyone is interested in joining the VFWA; call 641-295-1588 for the requirements. Members would love to have anyone come and join us to see what the VFWA does for the Veterans and the community.
