The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. on Sept. 8 by Meg Sponseller followed by opening prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, standing in silence and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.
The August meeting minutes were read by Kellie Allen and were approved as read. Dorothy Hellberg gave the treasurer's report noting the previous month's deposits and disbursements. The membership report was given by Trish Crosser. The Unit is at 62% with 104 members paid with a goal of 167. Members are encouraged to pay their dues as soon as possible.
The Nate Howard memorial bench has been placed on the memorial sidewalk. Members are encouraged to check it out. Jean and Kevin Huseboe plan to gather volunteers to clean up the memorial sidewalk and get new lighting installed.
The Auxiliary is planning on participating in the Oktemberfest parade on Sept. 26. Members that would like to help decorate or ride/walk in the parade can contact any member of the board or watch its Facebook page for more information.
Poppy kits have arrived! Many poppy sessions will be scheduled with the first being from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 5. Members can learn how to make poppies while enjoying social time and a light meal.
The American Legion Post 46 is planning on doing meals and bingo on the second Friday of every month. The American Legion Riders plan to do meals on the third Friday of each month. Both organizations are requesting desserts from ALA members.
The American Legion Golf Course is looking for hole sponsors. Sponsors will have their logo displayed on a granite tee marker for two years. For more information, contact Dave Bowles at the ProShop.
The next general membership meeting will be held on Oct. 13. Members that plan to attend can bring finger foods/appetizers to share. Costumes are encouraged but not necessary to join in on some Halloween fun.
The meeting was closed out with a list of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities with the biggest opportunity being the Oktemberfest parade prep and participation.
