Profit from the 4th annual TTT Golf Tournament, held Aug. 8 at the American Legion Golf Course, is the "highest ever," according to a report when Iowa ET/Camping4Girls met this week.
Proceeds from the tournament are earmarked for sending local 10-year-old girls to the Des Moines YMCA Camp each summer. To emphasize the fact that sending girls to camp is the primary mission of the organization, the longtime legal name (The National T.T.T. Society) has legally been changed to "Camping4Girls," and in the transition, chapters are frequently using the TTT/C4G label to help the public understand the change.
Maria Hazen, treasurer, noted that the current golf tournament figures show a profit of $8,500, which is $1,000 more than last year. "Actually, our numbers may fluctuate slightly," said Hazen, "because a couple checks are still out and, gratefully, we've received some post-tournament donations."
The tournament drew 16 teams, including four sponsored teams (Sports Plus from Marshalltown, Koltiv from Urbandale, Putco (tournament sponsor) and CapSan from Des Moines); two teams from a Boone chapter of TTT/Camping4Girls and 10 teams of golfers who paid their own team registrations. Eagle Level donors, besides Putco, were Barr Asset Management, Edward Jones (Zach Wahl), Lennox Employees Credit Union and First Rate Real Estate. Par Level donors included Fizz & Fiction, Central Iowa Capital Advisors (Gary Schaudt), Fencing Solutions, State Farm Insurance (Jeff Linton), State Farm Insurance (Tyler Peshong), Rand Veterinary Services, Shomo-Madsen Insurance, Colonial Title (Tulsa, OK), Green Family Christmas in July (Montour), Minute Man Printing & Graphics, and Becky Moundson.
In addition, 27 Marshalltown businesses or organizations donated items which were used as raffle prizes at the tournament, and about 20 local and area businesses or individuals made monetary donations. The free lunch for all golfers was provided by JBS, the Marshall County Pork Producers, Hy-Vee and Fareway, with lunchtime help from Chuck Colwell and Harlan Nuss, as well as TTT/C4G members.
Karen Colwell, speaking for the Tournament Committee, applauded Lisa Dougall, registrar and Tournament Day manager, as well as the chapter's original promoter of the tournament as a fund-raiser, for her consistent enthusiasm for the project and her leadership. Colwell noted that the committee was preparing a follow-up report as they plan for 2027.
In other business, the chapter formally established a "Camper Club" to help maintain structured contact with former campers between their camp experience and graduating from high school. Four members (Caylan Edwards, Angie Cope, Katie Lundberg, Kayla Elliott) volunteered to invite current and former campers to quarterly activities, with their first activity this fall.
Angie Cope, a TTT/C4G member who volunteers at the Iowa Veterans Home and was recognized in July at the 43rd annual Governor's Volunteer Award ceremony was honored by the group. Lorraine Schultz presented a certificate noting her TTT sisters' pride in Cope's Volunteer Spirit, as well as a photo of Governor Reynolds and Cope at the July ceremony.
Colwell announced that Daphne Emmack, the National President of TTT/C4G, will be a special guest at the October meeting. Chapter officers for '26-'27 will also be installed at that meeting, which will be Oct. 20 at the First Presbyterian Church.
